The Colour Therapy Professionals & Colour information resource There are many flower remedies or essences available now from many different parts of the world.
However, the BACH FLOWER REMEDIES are one of the most popular and well known.
The man who researched and produced these remedies was Dr.Edward Bach. He was born in 1886 and lived until 1936. Dr.Bach was a physician and homeopath at the London Homeopathic Hospital were he worked for some years as a pathologist and bacteriologist.
As an holistic physician, he was very aware that a person's attitude and personality has an effect on their health and well-being. This is why I feel there is a strong link here with Colour Therapy since colour also has a profound effect on our emotions as well as our physical and spiritual well-being. The other obvious reason for including this piece on Bach flowers is, of course, the link with nature.
With the emotional aspect of illness in mind, Dr.Bach went on to develop 38 flower remedies plus the combination remedy known as Rescue Remedy. The remedies are all made using the flowers of plants, bushes and trees growing in the English countryside. The flowers are then combined with pure water and placed in full sunlight. The only exception is Rock Water which is made from pure natural spring water which is said to have healing properties.
In 1930 Dr.Bach wrote a small book called "Heal Thyself". Published in 1931, this book is still in print and is a very useful book along with all his other excellent books which are available from:-
As well as Dr.Bach's books the centre can supply a list of training courses and practitioners. You may be interested to visit the centre where Dr.Bach's home and garden are open to the public.
To follow is a list of the remedies in relation to the colours and chakras, with a brief description of the emotional aspects, both positive and negative, attributed to each remedy. You may see the similarities here with the emotional aspects of the different colours. (See the flash movie clip, aspects of Colour and the details on the individual chakras)
These are purely suggestions and this is by no means an authoritative piece, more intuitive, based on my experiences with both Bach Flower remedies and Colour Therapy. However, I hope you find it interesting.
As stated before, the remedies work on the emotions, working on the individual rather than the disease or symptom. Thus, two people may apparently have a similar complaint, however, the remedies which prove helpful may be quite a different combination for each person. What I would like to point out here too is that you do not have to be "ill" to benefit from these remedies since they are emotional aids and can help in many situations.
The 38 remedies plus Rescue Remedy can be used safely alongside any other therapy or medication and can be helpful to adults and children/babies alike and animals too.
You can help yourself at home with these remedies or consult a qualified therapist. If you want to look further in to these remedies for self help, you can obtain a small book from the Bach Centre which will give full descriptions of all the remedies and how to use them.
However, briefly, you will need to be aware of your emotions and tie these up with the relevant remedy. When you first look at the book you will probably think that you need most of the remedies! However, if you concentrate on your current emotions you should be able to hone the list down.
A combination of up to 7 or 8 remedies can be used together. The remedies are mixed with pure mineral water and can be taken as drops directly on to the tongue or you can put the drops in to a glass of water or other drink. Animal treatment is the same as for humans. Drops in the animal's drinking water is an easy way to administer the remedies.
