I am a depression patient since the last 2 years. No one knows about this at home. My dad is no more and step mother and step sister do not care about me. I am following treatment with a physician and I’m currently on effexor and suffering from it side effects severely though I should say that the drug has worked quite well for my depression. I am looking for information to get relief from the side effects but... only the side effects have been mentioned; I am now thinking to give color therapy a try. What should I do? Please help me!

Dear Seniorita. I have suffered from depression as a result of growing up in an unhappy family too. Over the last few years, I have found that colour therapy has really helped me. I had my colours done and found out that citrus orange, lemon and lime suit me best. Then I started buying clothes in these brighter colours and it transformed how I felt about myself and how other people reacted to me in a very positive way. Orange is a good colour to wear to combat depression. I can definitely vouch for that. Make or buy some brightly coloured posters for your walls and some cushions. Hot pink is a good colour to snap you out of the blues. All of this will help take your mind off the unhappy aspects of your life and show you how much the world has to offer you in terms of beauty and joy.

Dear Seniorita, generally the colour which is considered a remedy for depression in color therapy is Sky-blue. You may take benefit from it by meditating. Since meditation is also a beneficial practice for mental health and tranquility.
Before sleeping at night, make yourself seated on the floor in a relaxed position with your back kept straight. Imagine yourself present in open air (even if you are in the room) under a shower of sky-blue rays falling from the sky on you. Practice it for about 15 minutes daily.
Initially it will be a really difficult practice to establish this imagination but be steadfast. No matter how much your mind wanders during this practice, the meditation will still be working in a good manner, all 15 minutes are beneficial!

The meditation can be compared with a cat focused on its prey watching it with concentration and bringing it back to the pray no matter how much it is distracted. Imagine yourself a cat and that imagination as your prey on which you'll keep your concentration.

Additionally, there is also treatment for depression (http://colortherapy.atspace.com/depression.html) with color water.

Wishing you health and peace.

When someone has depression they should stay away from blue (also black, grey and brown) because it's not going to lift you up out of the cloud you are under. Colourista has the right idea with bright colours, especially oranges. You might want to start incorporating rusty or teracotta colours because they are warmer and supportive until you feel comfortable. Orange (in terms of the sacral chakra) is the seat of your emotions. You could gradually move toward brighter oranges to increase a sense of joy and happiness. Just look for whatever colour feels uplifting to you rather than 'safe' or a colour to hide behind if you know what I mean.

You might also benefit from other forms of healing such as Reiki and energy healing to help lift and release the deeper causes of your depression.
